Visual Testing Courses
What is Visual Testing?
Visual testing is a Non-Destructive Testing method by which reflected or transmitted light from a test object is imaged with a light sensitive device (e.g. the human eye!).
What are the responsibilities of a individual who is certified to Visual Level 2?
An individual certified to Visual Level 2 has demonstrated competence to perform NDT according to Visual Testing procedures. Within the scope of the competence defined on the certificate, Level 2 personnel may be authorised by the employer to:
- Select the Visual technique for the test method to be used;
- Define the limitations of application of the testing method;
- Translate NDT codes, standards, specifications and procedures into NDT instructions adapted to the actual working conditions;
- Set up and verify equipment settings;
- Perform and supervise tests;
- Interpret and evaluate results according to applicable standards, codes, specifications or procedures;
- Prepare Visual written instructions
- Carry out and supervise all tasks at or below level 2;
- Provide guidance for personnel at or below level 2, and
- Report the results of Visual test
Days: 4 days training and 1 day exam
Duration: 24 Additional Hours Training or 40 hours (direct to Level 2)

Codes for VT Training Courses
- VT4 – Half Day Refresher Course suitable for SNT/PCN (4 Hours)
- VT8 – 1 Day Course suitable for SNT/PCN (8 Hours)
- VT16 – 2 Days Course suitable for SNT/PCN Level 1 (16 Hours)
- VT24 – 3 Days Course suitable for SNT Level 2 Direct (24 Hours)
- VT40 – 4 Days Course suitable for PCN Level 2 Direct (40 Hours)
Please note there is a further charge if you require examination at the end of your training course, please request details if an exam is required.

PCN Minimum Training and Work Experience Requirements
Level 1
- 16 Hours Training
- 1 Month Work Experience
Level 2
- 24 Additional Hours Training
- 3 Additional Months Work Experience
The minimum requirements for Level 2 are additional to requirements already satisfied for Level 1. If you are wishing to go direct to Level 2, the minimum work experience is 4 months, and the minimum training is 40 hours. Note: The examination may be taken before the work experience is completed, certificates are not issued until proof of work experience is provided. After passing the examination, a results notice is issued by PCN, you then have 24 months to complete the required work experience.
If you require training to comply with your employer’s written practice, Lavender International will change the course to suit your company’s procedure.
